Description Andrew Cowie 2003-07-30 19:54:08 UTC
In the space of 5 minutes on #gentoo today, two new users made the same mistake:
they created (and/or copied into their /mnt/gentoo chroot) resolve.conf instead
of resolv.conf

As a result, they could ping the internet by IP, but not by name.

I believe that warrants a cautionary warning somewhere in the install doc,
perhaps subtitled by "if you can no longer reach the internet by names, but ping
is working..."

Cheers,

AfC

Sorry, but I don't think it's interesting to warn people concerning typo's. Our guide does not have that error, and typo's can occur everywhere. If we would place <warn>'s everywhere a typo can occur, our guide would be colored red :)
