Some additional info:

Here is the directory listing for /usr/bin/pyth*:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   18 2009-01-21 21:01 /usr/bin/python -> /usr/bin/python2.5
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    9 2009-01-21 20:56 /usr/bin/python2 -> python2.5
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 6008 2009-01-21 20:56 /usr/bin/python2.5
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1418 2009-01-21 20:56 /usr/bin/python2.5-config
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   26 2009-01-21 21:01 /usr/bin/python-config -> /usr/bin/python-config-2.5 [<-- invalid link]

Note that the python-config link should be to be to /usr/bin/python2.5-config instead.

It's a matter of line endings - patch to correct the ebuild

3 lines in the ebuild are broken leading to the errors

new patch with correct sequence of the ebuilds in the diff
Comment 5 Nico R. 2009-01-22 09:09:03 UTC
The patch in comment 4 is incomplete, see python-2.5.4-r1.ebuild, lines 284 to 286.

It seems that most lines were accidentally wrapped after 80 characters.

Yes, your're right, lines 319-320 and 337-338 are also wrapped and missing from the patch

Appears to resolve all wrapping issues

Hopefully, this resolves all the wrapping issues in the ebuild...

Hey, you found a lot more...
However, the change for SRC_URI is not necessary

 HOMEPAGE="http://www.python.org/"
-SRC_URI="http://www.python.org/ftp/python/${PV}/${MY_P}.tar.bz2
-		 mirror://gentoo/python-gentoo-patches-${PV}.tar.bz2"
+SRC_URI="http://www.python.org/ftp/python/${PV}/${MY_P}.tar.bz2 mirror://gentoo/python-gentoo-patches-${PV}.tar.bz2"

Marking my incomplete patch as obsolete
Comment 9 Steve Kutnar 2009-01-23 13:34:04 UTC
Okay, good to know. the SRC_URI was the only questionable one.
Comment 10 Jesus Rivero (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-01-24 02:01:26 UTC
Hello,

   Thanks guys for finding this out. Now the -r2 is in CVS with the changes applied.

Best regards,
