I have a HVR 500 card that after upgrading the kernel from 2.6.24 to 2.6.28 (and from media-tv/ivtv to media-tv/ivtv-utils) did not play any sound at all. image was good tho. syslog reported this: Jan 18 20:13:01 pandora cx25840 1-0044: firmware: requesting v4l-cx23885-avcore-01.fw Jan 18 20:13:01 pandora cx25840 1-0044: unable to open firmware v4l-cx23885-avcore-01.fw there is such a firmware here: http://steventoth.net/linux/hvr1800/ and it works just great. it would be nice to have v4l-cx23885-avcore-01.fw and v4l-cx23885-enc.fw part of media-tv/ivtv-firmware.
card is PVR 500 not HVR 500, sorry
This firmware is part of media-tv/linuxtv-dvb-firmware Set DVB_CARDS="cx23885" in your /etc/make.conf and emerge linuxtv-dvb-firmware.
(In reply to comment #2) > This firmware is part of media-tv/linuxtv-dvb-firmware > > Set DVB_CARDS="cx23885" in your /etc/make.conf and emerge linuxtv-dvb-firmware. > thanks, I did not know about this package. I removed all /lib/firmware, emerged as per your reply, then I got this: ivtv1: Unable to open firmware v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw (must be 376836 bytes) ivtv1: Did you put the firmware in the hotplug firmware directory? ivtv1: Retry loading firmware copied that missing file, then got this other one: cx25840 2-0044: firmware: requesting v4l-cx25840.fw cx25840 2-0044: unable to open firmware v4l-cx25840.fw all of the above (plus v4l-cx2341x-dec.fw and v4l-cx2341x-init.mpg which I don't know if will ever be needed) were available in that file from comment #0
media-tv/linuxtv-dvb-firmware will be removed from the tree in 30 days. See bug #304047 for more information.
