Description Greg Fitzgerald 2009-01-17 16:53:14 UTC
Seems that in the latest revision of man it no longer reads the MANPAGER variable from your shell. Tried clean shells for both bash and zsh.Running man -P$MANPAGER man works.

I downgraded to the latest stable version and it was resolved.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install latest unstable sys-apps/man
2. MANPAGER="most" man man
3. profit?

Actual Results:
Ignores pager listed in MANPAGER.

Expected Results:
Use the pager listed in MANPAGER variable.

Thanks for reporting this issue. Please post your 'emerge --info' as well, because it can be useful to maintainers trying to reproduce problems.

please post exact version numbers rather than saying "stable" and "unstable"

the difference between man-1.6f-r2 and man-1.6f-r3 does nothing with environment, only the default cat compressor

this works fine for me on 1.6f-r[23]:
MANPAGER=more man man
Comment 4 Greg Fitzgerald 2009-01-19 02:37:17 UTC
Not sure what I had wrong the other day but trying sys-apps/man-1.6f-r3 again it now works. Report is invalid.
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2009-01-19 03:39:39 UTC
maybe it was the "most" vs "more" ? the "most" app usually isnt installed ...
