Description Martin Erdtmann 2009-01-17 13:08:30 UTC
When starting openarena, you see the start screen where to choose a level first. After this is done and when you click on "start game" you will HEAR all the sounds in the game like shooting etc. but you still see the start screen with the menue. The game seems to run but you cannot see what happens.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start the game
2. Choose a level
3. Enter an arena

Actual Results:
The startmenue keeps on the screen, status messages (entering bot players etc) appear but you do not see what is acually happening

Expected Results:
After entering an arena you will see it and interact with other object / players

The games worked properly a few weeks ago, the issue is most likely cause by a library update like openal or sdl.
Rebuilding the game did not fix the problem.

Since the bug isn't in openarena itself but rather an incompatibility with some new library version, how about listing all libraries that have been upgraded in the last few weeks since the game ran properly? 'qlop -l' will give you a nice chronological listing of emerged packages.

Info from terminal run of both ebuild and manual compile

I have a similar problem (also in x86_64), but in my case the screen is totally black, except for the layer of status and crosshair; all textures do not appear. This also happens in another pc(i686). The above problem I have also seen in another one (x86_64). This is not an incopatibility of dependencies of openarena, since I have used the same sources (openarena-engine-0.8.1.tar.gz) from my distfiles to compile it for a user. When I compiled it, it requested the *.pk3 that come in the openarena binary (oa081.zip). After I copied them to $build_dir/build/release-linux-x86_64/baseoa/ the game ran fine. Also, I had a diferent version of openal before and it had the same problem. I deep updated my system with the same results (black textures). Unmerged openarena and merged it again(not pkg) and again the same.

This are all dependencies with their respective current versions and time of build:

media-libs/libsdl (1.2.13@13/09/08)
x11-libs/libXext (1.0.3@15/06/08)
x11-libs/libX11 (1.1.4@09/12/08)
x11-libs/libXau (1.0.3@15/06/08)
x11-libs/libXdmcp (1.0.2@15/06/08)
net-misc/curl (7.18.2@06/08/08)
media-libs/openal (1.6.372@19/01/09)
libvorbis (1.2.1_rc1@25/06/08)
games-fps/openarena (0.8.1@22/01/09) also @09/01/09

Attached is the info gathered from terminal run.

I will further inspect this, what I really think is that it is some problem with the ebuild not doing/copying something.

please retry with 0.8.8 and an updated system, I cannot reproduce anymore
