Description emerald 2009-01-16 13:22:37 UTC
sys-boot/syslinux (newest version in portage) builds on ppc (~ppc) and works (on x86), nasm as dependency too, so both could be keyworded for ppc.
I don't know if i should create a report for nasm too.
(Or is there an easier way to get packages keyworded?)

I think we're going to not keyword this, if you don't mind. I understand that it might be useful to cross compile it for x86, but if you're doing that, you probably know enough to set keywords yourself.

The issue here is confusion. If we mark nasm ~ppc, someone who didn't realize that it only produces x86 binaries might consider it a valid dep on ppc. I'd just like to avoid that confusion.

If you think there is a good reason to have it keyworded, I'd be happy to reconsider. Thanks for testing!

I actually don't really care that much about the keyword since I got it in my package.keywords already (and i now know syslinux is working on non x86 arches too). I only thought someone else might be in a similar situation as I was to get a usb stick bootable with only a working ppc (or whatever) machine around but no x86. So when I found it to be working I just thought why not share this info with the world, others might be happy to know about it.
