Description emos696 2009-01-15 04:46:42 UTC
See Bugzilla Bug#: 72381

Package homepage:
http://kassiopeia.juls.savba.sk/~garabik/software/python-utmp/

Reason:
Develop tool which needs to read and interpret wtmp entries.

Inclusion to portage would be much appreciated.

Why is this marked obsolete?

The package is still missing, and other packages, like x11-misc/winswitch / x11-wm/xpra depend on it for certain functionality (access to X11 sessions). Please reopen.
Comment 2 Dennis Schridde 2015-06-18 16:11:39 UTC
P.S: "Proof": winswitch_applet outputs an error:
LocalX11ServerUtil.detect_existing_sessions() cannot detect local X11 displays without utmp support (either python-utmp or pyutmp)
Comment 3 Dennis Schridde 2015-06-18 16:18:42 UTC
An alternative would by pyutmp, e.g. if there is any reason not to support python-utmp.

Note, that there is also https://pypi.python.org/pypi/utmp, but that is Python 3.4 only, and thus does not help for winswitch (Python 2.7).
