I am trying installing gentoo linux on my desktop celeron and I am using the livecd-i686-installer-2008-r1.iso. After o system load the gentoo kernel, it to try load the graphical installer and crash. The error menssage is "Failed to start the X server. It is likely that it is not set up correctly". Then I try use the installer in text mode and I get another crash when I try to format the partition. In this case I am using sdb1 as /, sdb2 as swap and sdb5 as /home. After define the mountpoints I choose the option "Save and Continue". Then the installer ask me about the network file system; I choose the option "Save and Continue" because I dont need a NFS. Then the system crash.
Sorry, the Gentoo Linux Installer is no longer supported (as of very recently, so I can't blame you for trying). Other than that, the Gentoo Linux LiveCD never launched an installer - only a GUI which apparently doesn't support your hardware. The focus of the release team has shifted to minimal CDs with more recent hardware support - please try one of those instead.
