aspell has been failing for months with this:

ory
./libtool: line 1161: X-c: command not found
./libtool: line 1214: Xmodules/tokenizer/basic.lo: No such file or directory
./libtool: line 1219: libtool: compile: cannot determine name of library object from `': command not found
make[1]: *** [modules/tokenizer/basic.lo] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/public/tmp/linux-64/portage/app-text/aspell-0.60.6/work/aspell-0.60.6'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

I think it must need libtool-2 which is masked in prefix.

What software versions are you using (emerge --info would be useful). What USE flags? How about a full build log? And, can you still reproduce this bug?

I ask this because I have been using app-text/aspell-0.60.6 since 2008-04-28. The last time I emerged it was 2009-01-19 (I forgot for which reason I reemerged it).

My emerge --info:

two build logs for app-text/aspell-0.60.6

two build logs for app-text/aspell-0.60.6. Both builds were successful and aspell seems to be working perfectly.

Are you qualified to help with Gentoo Prefix? ;)

Thanks for confirming that it is prefix specific, might be useful for debugging. But if libtool-2 fixes this magically..we will probably just ignore this bug.

Probably no. And thank you for the compliment, even though it was probably tongue-in-cheek.

I'm glad to help you. Anyway, I looked into this bug report because it is one of the only three open bug reports against aspell-0.60.6. At first I didn't even realize it concerns the Prefix project. What I really wanted was to see aspell-0.60.6 stabilized. Since it was introduced to Portage in 2008-04-27, has only three bugs open (one which also seems to affect stable versions and other two which are prefix-specific) and a search for all bugs modified since 2009-01-01 shows only these three bugs plus two others which were fixed in 2009-01-10, should I file a "please stabilize app-text/aspell-0.60.6" bug?
By the way, what is the Gentoo stabilization policy? I heard somewhere it was "start stabilization if a package remains regression-free for 30 days" ; after a quick google search and a (very) quick glance at the Gentoo developer manual I cannot confirm this.

Thank you for your time (and I hope I have not wasted it) and contribution.

Yup, prefix bugs don't concern gentoo-x86 stabilization efforts. Go for it.

30 days in tree, no bugs open against that version. If a bug is open, it can't be a regression since the previous stable version.

No worries.
Comment 6 Peter Volkov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-03-02 19:15:23 UTC
I reviewed bugs before pushing aspell-0.60.6 as noticed this one. I hoped that this hack fixes this issue:

http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/app-text/aspell/aspell-0.60.6.ebuild?r1=1.1&r2=1.2

Was it included in prefix?
Comment 7 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2009-03-02 19:25:12 UTC
I think so:

Well, we unmasked libtool-2 in Gentoo Prefix and the problem went away. Since the prefix team is understaffed, we shall just resolve this bug and not look back! =)
