I received an e-mail from Matthias Hanns (wir05hjx on studserv.uni-leipzig.de) with the following content: """ Sometimes cups needs a lot of time to generate the initial cert for encrypted communication for admin purpose. The reason is the poor entropy on servers from /dev/random while creating the cert. For an admin in the dark this may looks as a bug and he may be intended to cancel/kill the cups server because meaning it hangs. Mayby a short note in gentoo printing guide may help: 1) wait some (long) time until cert creation has finished 2) create more entropy (maybe via "find /") to speed up Some information I found at http://burtonini.com/blog/computers/cups-2006-08-14-18-00 """ Reproducible: Always
What about bug 220649 -- this should be fixed, unless the user is using some outdated package.
Fixed in CVS. Upstream needs to get its act together so the entropy generation stops breaking every other release. Bah. Thanks for the report, though!
