Hm.. What locales do you have installed? (locale -a)
Comment 2 Zachary 2009-01-16 03:41:12 UTC
Actually, gWaei 0.13.0 had some work done to get it working on Netbsd AMD64 machines. Since you seem to be running an AMD64 machine, can you verify if this problem still exists?
Comment 3 Zachary 2009-01-16 06:29:30 UTC
I think I may have fixed the problem in my private gwaei builds. But I don't have access to an AMD64 machine with Gentoo installed on it. I either need some guinea pigs or someone to give me temporary ssh access to a box...

If someone is interested in helping, drop me an email (address on http://gwaei.sourceforge.net/ ) or reply to this bug.

I tried the 0.13.1 version this morning, same problem, doesn't shows the window and eats memory.
the only thing that changed it that now it outputs something on the terminal :

Set CTYPE locale to ja_JP.UTF8
LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.UTF8 /usr/bin/gwaei

Set CTYPE locale to ja_JP.UTF8
LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.UTF8 /usr/bin/gwaei

...
forever until I kill it with ctrl+c
it doesn't change anything if I set the LC_CTYPE as it suggest

If you want I can help you for your tests

I managed to find someone in the forums to help. I'll be releasing a version with the fix within about day.

The new version is on sourceforge if you want to try testing it for yourself.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gwaei/

The CJK guy is pretty quick on sending updates through portage, so I wouldn't be surprised if it appears before tomorrow.

I just tried, it's working flawlessly.

Nice aplication by the way.
