fortune and fortune-mod is not the same software, even if they are related to each other through purpose and potentially codebase, which you might notice if you visit the url where the file is gotten from. Personally i think fortune-mod (named so because it is fortune modified) should stay named fortune-mod and fortune should point to fortune-0.2 available from the same place or another software actually named fortune. But im not the maintainer of this software or ebuild so its just my opinion. And if it makes a large gain in portage usability then why not.
