Per ivtv-users mailing list posting [1], it is no longer required that the kernel parameter CONFIG_VIDEO_HELPER_CHIPS_AUTO be deselected. It was needed for kernel versions < 2.6.26, but since ivtv-utils will only install on >= 2.6.26, that restriction is no longer needed. That parameter can be selected and then the appropriate drivers will be automatically configured and built.
