When the output plugin is set to Disk Writer, it skips any output/effects
plugins you might have set.  There is a patch to fix this, but is is not in the
gentoo ebuild.
I have made a gentoo version of the patch that builds correctly with xmms-1.2.7-r20.

Nice patch.  I was hoping it was a diskwriter patch which allows simultaneous audio output while doing the diskwriting.  xmms-1.2.7-r24 is being added to portage with this patch.  Please test this build and let me know if you find any problems.

xmms-1.2.7-r24 seems to work just fine
