Yeah, it is deprecated, the new version of revdep-rebuild runs with -X turned on by default (thus not needing the -X which was previously used to emerge any version available rather than exact version.) That being said, there are people out there who still run older versions of revdep-rebuild and will have that version installed and will require the -X option - it is just a suggestion so I don't see the need to remove it.
