If hplip is installed with scanner support in use flags, I thought a configuration file would be installed in the /etc/sane.d directory. This is not the case and therefore, the scanner is not detected by xsane or kooka. I had to write a file containing the line "hpaio" in this directory. Is it really normal ? Reproducible: Always
Looks like a valid feature request if you put the Summary like that. :) The ebuild does _remove_ an /etc/sane.d/ file, though: rm -f "${D}"/etc/sane.d/dll.conf
This file used to be installed by hplip, but is now installed by >=sane-backends-1.0.19. See bug #201023. If you don't have it installed on your system then it's because your dependencies are not up to date or there's an issue with sane-backends. Denis.
