if firefox 3.0.5 and flash >=10 flash checks for other plugins that load gtk 1.x and does not work. e.g. java 5/6. vlc plugin. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. install firefox 3.0.5 2. install netscape-flash 10.0.15.3 3. install java, vlc, ... + plugins 4. view a youtube video Actual Results: flash gets black or grey output: Adobe Flash Player: GTK1.x environments not supported. Exiting now. Expected Results: flash playing flash 10 is not "stable" esp. with other plugins. please switch back to 9 for the "stable" branch. or mark the other plugins to be obsolete. however. i have many more problems with flash 10 i'd like it to be masked again.
Flash 9 has unfixed security holes, so it won't be stabled. Also, Adobe is focusing on Flash 10 now, which means that Flash 9 does not get much attention anymore...
I think that maybe you have something else wrong with your system. I have no problems with firefox 3.0.5 and netscape-flash-10.0.15.3 with java or any other plugins loaded. Also, running 'revdep-rebuild -p L /usr/lib/libgtk-1.2.so.0.9.1' shows no files dynamically linked against it. ie nothing is using gtk1. vlc and its netscape plugin use gtk2
i did the revdep as commmen #2 suggested. nothing. i did an ldd on all so files firefox is loading. nothing. the only thing foxytunes uses xmms which is gtk 1.2, however they communicate over a socket: /tmp/xmm_{$USER}.0 so i don't think xmms is linked into the bundle. the strange thing when using flash 10 and having all other plugins (not extensions) disabled. flash (usually from youtube) plays once. then a grey box...
It doesn't seem like Firefox itself has anything to do with it - just netscape-flash "checking" other plugins?
@comment #4 yes. netscape-flash >=10 seems to have that problem. BTW: i tested it with 2 different firefox profiles
I will keep version 9 in the tree as long as possible (they are still making security updates, but who knows how long that will last). Because of the "no mirroring" clause in the license, we are at their mercy. If they stop releasing version 9, we have no choice but to remove it from the tree. Have you narrowed down exactly what other plugin or extension is interfering with flash? I suggest you start with a clean profile and uninstall ALL plugins, even java. Then verify that flash works. Then start adding them back one at a time until flash stops working. Report back here with what plugin was the problem - Maybe we can fix that plugin, if it's open-source. You could also try reporting this at Adobe's bugtracker: https://bugs.adobe.com/flashplayer/ if no one else has yet.
i'll file a bug there too if i still get it. however with linux and flash 10 a lot of sites tell me to install fash >=9. THIS i'll def. report at adobe.
I can confirm that it's an issue with the firefox extension Foxytunes. If I disable FoxyTunes, Flash apps work as expected.
If this is a flash <-> foxytunes interaction issue, you should definitely take it up with both Adobe and most certainly whoever wrote the Foxytunes thing. Not much that Gentoo can do about it :)
