Description R. Welz 2009-01-02 07:52:06 UTC
I am setting up a new machine with the same software like my old, defective one. I had squirrelmail-1.5.1-r6 on it but it seems that now gentoo offers only squirremail 1.4. Is this a bug?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge --sync
2. ls /usr/portage/mail-client/squirrelmail/

Actual Results:
ChangeLog Manifest files metadata.xml squirrelmail-1.4.16.ebuild squirrelmail-1.4.17.ebuild

Expected Results:
to have a squirrelmail-1.5.1-r* something ebuild

Pallas squirrelmail # emerge --info

According to the cvs logs [0] it was removed because it contained a large file in the files directory by dertobi to resolve bug #248980

After some browsing arounf the squirrelmail SF project [1], it looks like ultimately the reason the 1.5 versions were removed was because it was a development branch where the last release is now over 2 years old [2]

I don't think the 1.5 builds were ever supposed to go stable anyway.

No - it's a feature. Allen already pointed out the reasons to remove 1.5, it was a very outdated development snapshot. Also it was package.masked and from a security pov I personally wouldn't run such unsupported software on a production box.

This one is a WONTFIX.
