Description Nick Grimshaw 2008-12-31 14:09:11 UTC
When running "emerge -C net-mail/bincimap-1.2.12", none of the files are removed - amongst others, binaries and documentation still remain.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -av bincimap
2. emerge -C bincimap

Actual Results:
No files are removed:

colon portage # emerge -C net-mail/bincimap-1.2.12

 net-mail/bincimap
    selected: 1.2.12
   protected: none
     omitted: none

>>> 'Selected' packages are slated for removal.
>>> 'Protected' and 'omitted' packages will not be removed.

>>> Waiting 5 seconds before starting...
>>> (Control-C to abort)...
>>> Unmerging in: 5 4 3 2 1
>>> Unmerging net-mail/bincimap-1.2.12...

 * GNU info directory index is up-to-date.

Expected Results:
It should have removed the files; I removed them all manually (after reinstalling to get a file list) with the command:

rm -rf /etc/bincimap/  /usr/libexec/{checkpassword.pl,toimapdir,tomaildir++} /usr/share/doc/bincimap/ /usr/share/doc/bincimap-1.2.12/ /usr/share/man/man?/bincimap* /usr/bin/bincimap* /var/log/bincimap*

colon portage # emerge --info

No clue.
Comment 2 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2009-01-03 21:13:56 UTC
I'm not able to reproduce it.

With less than portage-2.1.3 it was normal for files to be left installed if their timestamps or md5 had changed at some point after they were installed. However, since portage-2.1.3, FEATURES=unmerge-orphans has been enabled by default. It ensures that files are always removed, except for those that are both protected by CONFIG_PROTECT and have been modified since install.
