when trying to compile avahi with the gtk use flag which is needed to install gnome I get an econf failed error. However I can succesfully compile avahi without the gtk use flag. After googling I found i might need to run revdep-rebuild, however this did not help. Did you run python-updater after you've emerged python 2.5 ? At the very least, try reemerging pygtk (though if you did fail, you'll probably need much more).

However a search with emerge -s shows I have that already installed.
Start with 'emerge -upvD world' as there's no 2.8.10, but there's 2.8.12. Then run python-updater. You may even consider adding '--with-bdeps=y' to emerge command (or whatever that was spelled).
