Bruce, this is a problem with jpilot, actually. Recently, I updated gnome-pilot and pilot-link, so the USB issue you mentioned in the ChangeLog should be sorted out now. Please also check the spacing and syntax of the -r2 ebuild.
Keith, As I recall, this issue was fixed. Please reopen the bug with updated comments if that is not the case.
