Now we have two packages related to x264 codec: media-libs/x264: A free library for encoding X264/AVC streams media-video/x264-encoder: A free library for encoding X264/AVC streams But they both have the exact same description. In my opinion, this is a bit confusing. Looking at the media-libs/x264 ebuild, I see an informative postinst message saying that one package has only the libraries, and the other has only the encoder. I think we can "promote" such information to the package description, something like this: media-libs/x264: A free library for encoding X264/AVC streams (library only) media-video/x264-encoder: A free library for encoding X264/AVC streams (cmd-line encoder only) or... media-video/x264-encoder: The free X264/AVC stream cmd-line encoder.
Thanks for proposing this clarification, assigning to video team who maintains ebuilds for both packages.
Fixed by changing x264-encoder description to: "A free commandline encoder for X264/AVC streams"
