g-s-d will load background image needlessly because gnome-desktop fails to check gconf for draw_background. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Created attachment 175638 [details] This is a patch for gnome-bg.c in gnome-desktop I've submitted this to the gnome bugzilla, but I've been told that the maintainer of gnome-desktop can be slow to respond, so I'm hoping to have this included with gentoo anyway until that happens
patch looks sane
however, it doesn't apply to 2.24.1, which file did you get this diff from ?
gnome-desktop-2.24.2/libgnome-desktop/gnome-bg.c
fixed in gnome-desktop-2.24.2-r1. Thanks for reporting.
Does this work in a situation without nautilus getting launched? When /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop is false in gconf, that is. I mean, does a background get drawn on the iconless desktop? Just idle curiousity, I will see once I upgrade on my desktop at some point where I don't use nautilus
Yes, this works without nautilus. g-s-d will draw the background before nautilus loads. That is what this patch fixes.
