Thanks for the report. A single bug is fine, since the packages are closely related and taken care of by the same team of developers. This is just a minor version change, so did you have luck doing a trivial version bump yourself (rename of existing ebuilds)?
I did not yet try. Was just investigating into alternative init systems, when I saw that the version of initng provided by Gentoo was outdated.
sys-apps/initng-0.6.10.2 and sys-apps/initng-ifiles-0.1.5 from initng overlay (layman+svn) compiles and --config fine after having patched sys-apps/initng-ifiles-0.1.5 with the patch provided here : http://www.initng.org/ticket/778 I didn't had time to go further into testing.
