Description don quixada 2008-12-03 01:58:15 UTC
According to the following, xscreensaver used to have an 'offensive' use-flag it seems:

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46256

However, it is missing now. With the addition of gnome-screensaver there is now no way to disable the webcollage short of deleting it manually. Please re-add the 'offensive' use-flag.

Reproducible: Always

Thanks for the suggestion, assigning to xscreensaver maintainers

(but even if they don't bring back the flag, at least you can get what you want by stuffing the patch above into xscreensaver/files/5.07 of a local overlay)

Webcollage isn't enabled by default for random screensavers, thanks to Debian folks but it's available if you explicitely enable it from the GUI. So the problem is solved this way, and stays that way. There is no more need for the USE offensive anymore -- just don't pick it as your screensaver.

Unless jwz has something to add here? My information is based on your and Debian maintainers comments on Debian bugtracker and debian.changelog's.

Basically I'm trying to say, you can either choose to enable it.. or not. You can also choose to browse to a pr0n site using firefox.. or not. It's up to the use by the GUI now.

What do you expect me to say? I am offended by your attempts at censorship and and at dictating morality. And also by your misuse of apostrophes.

I'm ok with just not choosing it-- that's what I used to do when xscreensaver was the standard for Gnome. However, now that gnome-screensaver is the standard things have seemingly changed. Or have they? Are you saying that after the xscreensaver hacks are converted and copied over to gnome-screensaver the 'random' option will never display the webcollage screensaver? If so, then I would consider this bug to be resolved. But I still would like to see some documentation backing-up your claim just for posterity.
Comment 8 Jamie Zawinski 2008-12-03 22:40:21 UTC
If you find that gnome-screensaver is not giving you the level of control that you desire, then you should report a bug against gnome-screensaver, not xscreensaver.
Comment 9 don quixada 2008-12-03 23:01:02 UTC
I'm not sure if that completely resolves the issue since it is xscreensaver that installs the hack, but ok:

Please don't be offended by my attemps, I outline rejected the patch crippling your package :-) I'm all for following with what you say on the package, so
this means we apply a minimal set of settings change to our current package.

This patch is NOT going into our package.

Even more the less, thank you Jamie for cooperating with us so well!

It's compeletely not xscreensaver's or my issue, it's an issue for the Gnome maintainers. Thank you for opening a bug for them.

I'm not intrested in gnome-screensaver at all, sorry.
