Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2008-11-30 12:07:36 UTC
gvim.desktop and gvim.desktop-r1 (both in ${FILESDIR}) have the following issues:
1. They use key "Encoding" , that in group "Desktop Entry" is deprecated -> Simply drop it :-)
2. They have "Application" as a Category, that is also deprecated
3. They specify a lot of text/* as MimeType, it's is not recommended as explained in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=552466#c5 because text/plain is being also specified. Then, "text/plain" should be enough

Thanks a lot

Reproducible: Always

Any news on this? Point "3" is a bit important because it causes gnome to open gvim for a lot of text files until I manually set it to open them with gedit

Thanks a lot

Yes, updated the .desktop file in app-editors/gvim-7.2.238 to address all 3
issues:
 - No more Encoding
 - No more Application in the Category
 - Only specify text/plain in MimeType

Thanks for the report!
