1) your eix db is old, update it by update-eix command 2) there is 3.5.10 in testing, if you use some testing packages dont expect us to fix this, use full testing or full stable, with mixture we wont be able to help. if you really thing this is our falut please reopen.
Extract from eix kde [I] kde-base/kde Available versions: (3.5) 3.5.9 {accessibility} Installed versions: 3.5.9(3.5)(17:03:32 21/02/08)(accessibility) Homepage: http://www.kde.org/ Description: KDE - merge this to pull in all non-developer kde-base/* packages * kde-base/kde-i18n Available versions: (3.5) 3.5.9 (~)3.5.10 Notice that kde-base/kde-i18n has the "(~)3.5.10" option, and I think kde-base/kde should also have the "(~)3.5.10" option. My eix db is up to date. I use eix-sync I do not use a mixture of testing and stable. I use just testing.
Now i know. You use monollithic ebuilds :] This is expected behavior. There will be only metas for 3.5.10. (Not my choice i am kde4 dev). So for 3.5.10 you have to uninstall kde:3.5 and install kde-meta:3.5. If you want you can poke carlo by mail if he really dont want to include monolithic ebuilds. But i think he made this decision for some good reason.
Ok, I will do the merge as you suggest, but what is the difference between * kde-base/kde-meta Available versions: (3.5) 3.5.9 (~)3.5.10 (4.1) (~)4.1.2 (~)4.1.3 {accessibility nls} Homepage: http://www.kde.org/ Description: KDE - merge this to pull in all non-developer, split kde-base/* packages and [I] kde-base/kde Available versions: (3.5) 3.5.9 {accessibility} Installed versions: 3.5.9(3.5)(17:03:32 21/02/08)(accessibility) Homepage: http://www.kde.org/ Description: KDE - merge this to pull in all non-developer kde-base/* packages The description is exactly the same. Some kind of smoother upgrade path should be used. I.e. Have "kde-meta" automatically install itself, and have it remove "kde"
Cant help muthch tho. But meta means splited packages so you wont compile kdebase but every single package. It takes bit longer but you are able to customize your install realy greatly. That is the only difference. I am not usre if this can be donea automaticaly . I think it is no go.
