Description N. Andrew Walsh 2008-11-27 00:34:45 UTC
Upgrading from netscape-flash-10.0.12.36-r1 to 10.0.20.7_alpha causes firefox to segfault if I visit sites that use flash (apparently). The case in point for me in gmail, also a couple other sites (wonkette comes to mind).

Adding 10.0.20.7_alpha to package.mask, and downgrading back, makes the problem go away. Perhaps there is something else wrong that isn't the flash player? 'revdep-rebuild' didn't return anything, so I'm assuming that this is the broken package.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade netscape-flash to 10.0.20.7_alpha
2. Try to check your gmail account with firefox.
3. Repeat.
4. Cry.

Actual Results:
Segfault and sad chat-panda

Expected Results:
Chat and lolz!

"Segmentation Fault" is the only output I get to the console.

So, you really want 'emerge --info' here? Well, okay...

# emerge --info

Same here. Some sites like Youtube work fine, others crash the browser horribly. Thank god for NoScript so I can decide which embedded Flash to show...
Comment 2 N. Andrew Walsh 2008-11-28 20:36:49 UTC
echo "=net-www/netscape-flash-10.0.20_alpha">>/etc/portage/package.mask
emerge -C netscape-flash
emerge netscape-flash
emerge nspluginwrapper

seems to provide working flash with no segfaults.

Looks like Adobe totally hosed the 64-bit flash rollout.
Comment 3 N. Andrew Walsh 2008-11-28 20:38:15 UTC
Whoops. make that

echo "=net-www/netscape-flash-10.0.20.7_alpha">>/etc/portage/package.mask

for the first line.

Have you tried the latest 64-bit version (10.0.21.1_alpha)?
Comment 5 N. Andrew Walsh 2009-01-07 17:33:33 UTC
Apparently I have. I haven't noticed any problems with flash sites (YouTube, etc.), so I guess they fixed whatever the problem was. Yay!
Comment 6 Jim Ramsay (lack) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-01-08 02:08:40 UTC
Excellent, good to hear!

Closing this bug.
