It is the same thing the ebuild tries to do so any error messages would give us a hint what is happening. Also, check the output of dmesg | tail after executing the command.
If there is a bug, it is in the mount-boot eclass, not in the memtest86+ ebuild. Reassigning.

Also, check the output of > > dmesg | tail > > after executing the command. > # mount -o remount,rw /boot; echo $? mount: /boot not mounted already, or bad option 32 # dmesg | tail [cut] EXT3-fs: cannot specify journal on remount # grep boot /etc/fstab UUID=2cef7036-cd9e-4bfc-bda4-acd9f82bed3d /boot ext3 noauto, noatime, journal=update 1 2 I tried without specifying journal=update and it works: # mount -o remount,rw /boot; echo $? 0 so I think the problem is that journal=update is not supported when remounting. It may be nice if you warn users about that. Thanks!
yes, i think this a bug in util-linux
putting journal= options in /etc/fstab makes no sense. dont do it. review the upstream mailing list for more info.
