Description Martin Wiedermann 2008-11-22 13:34:56 UTC
emerge gnome-extra/deskbar-applet-2.22.3.1 fails:
"configure: error: gnomeapplet Phyton module required to build deskbar"

-> /dev-python/gnome-applets-python masked (just ~ppc possible but not ppc)
but it shouldnt for installing stable version of gnome.

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
emerge gnome should be succesfully possible on ppc

kernel 2.6.26-gentoo-r2, ppc (G4 use altivec)

This is part of gnome-python-desktop (which was split up here into individual packages). You should have that installed, pulled in as a dep of deskbar-applet. Do you have gnome-python-desktop, and if so, what version?

i installed the gnome-python desktop today (2.22.0). if i use=avahi it fails (gtk python module missing). without this variable i was able to install. later i tried again emerging gnome with the same result as yesterday. ..deskbar-applet-2.22.3.1 fails

Comment 4 Martin Wiedermann 2008-11-26 13:52:30 UTC
i found the solution in the forum:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-578893-highlight-alacarte.html?sid=816341e773a5d85a6cd32041d5518b1d

checking for pygtk 2.8.0 installed for python 2.4... not found
configure: error: required pygtk version not found

solution (reemerging because of missing symlinks):

emerge -av pygobject pygtk

now everything works fine
