Description Ben Weiss 2008-11-21 03:23:34 UTC
After updating from python-2.4 to 2.5, I ran python-updater. Emerging failed at libopensync. During configure, it was finding python-2.4 still. Problem was symlink in /usr/local/bin was not updated to point to 2.5. Fixed symlink, emerge completes.
While looking through other bugs, found out about app-admin/eselect-python, which was not installed. Found that curious.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Update from python-2.4 to python 2.5
2.emerge libopensync
3.

Actual Results:
Emerge fails at configure- reports python 2.4 installed, can not find python 2.4 libraries.

Expected Results:
Compiles against python 2.5

app-admin/eselect-python is used only by >=dev-lang/python-2.6.

Ebuilds don't install anything to /usr/local. You shouldn't create any symlinks in /usr/local/bin.
Comment 2 Ben Weiss 2008-11-22 00:45:19 UTC
Interesting. So, at some point something else placed the symlink there.
Changed the link back to to 2.4, same problem. Removed altogether, no issues.
I was experimenting with Ypops a while back, since there's also a 'smtpd.py' file in /usr/local/bin, I'm guessing it's responsible for the symlink, and that just happens to be the one configure found first during emerge.
Comment 3 Dawid Węgliński (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-12-05 21:15:12 UTC
The default Gentoo enviroment exports /usr/local/bin at the begining of PATH variable and making it programs/symlinks to be "prime" thus executed instead of those in /usr/sbin and /usr/bin. I suggest close this since it's not an eselect nor python bug.
