media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc2_p27725-r and media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc2_p27120-r use runtime CPU detection despite being emerged with disabled "cpudetection" use flag. I've checked available mplayer versions and it looks like mplayer-1.0_rc2_p24929-r4 has this problem too. mplayer-1.0_rc2_p26753-r1 and mplayer-1.0_rc2_p26753 are not affected with this error. These two versions had runtime CPU detection disabled when emerged without "cpudetecion" flag. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Emerge mplayer-1.0_rc2_p27725-r, mplayer-1.0_rc2_p27120-r or mplayer-1.0_rc2_p24929-r4 with "cpudetection" flag disabled. Actual Results: Runtime CPU detection is enabled Expected Results: Runtime CPU detection should be disabled. emerge --info ortage 2.2_rc14 (default/linux/x86/2008.0/desktop, gcc-4.1.2, glibc-2.7-r2, 2.6.25-gentoo-r9 i686) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.25-gentoo-r9-i686-AMD_Sempron-tm-_2800+-with-glibc2.0 Timestamp of tree: Mon, 17 Nov 2008 22:45:01 +0000 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [enabled] ccache version 2.4 [enabled] app-shells/bash: 3.2_p33 dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.1.6 dev-lang/python: 2.5.2-r7 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r6 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r7 dev-util/cmake: 2.4.7-r1 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.11.1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61-r2 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.1-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.26 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.23-r3 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/config /var/lib/hsqldb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/X11/xkb /etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/udev/rules.d /usr/lib/X11/xkb" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" DISTDIR="/mnt/distfiles" FEATURES="ccache distcc distlocks parallel-fetch preserve-libs protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.prz.rzeszow.pl http://gentoo.zie.pg.gda.pl http://gentoo.po.opole.pl ftp://gentoo.po.opole.pl ftp://mirror.icis.pcz.pl/gentoo/ http://gentoo.mirror.pw.edu.pl/ ftp://ftp.fi.muni.cz/pub/linux/gentoo/ ftp://gentoo.mirror.web4u.cz/ ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ ftp://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/Linux/gentoo ftp://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/gentoo-mirror/ ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://ftp.join.uni-muenster.de/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo ftp://ftp.wh2.tu-dresden.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://ftp.join.uni-muenster.de/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo ftp://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.gentoo.mesh-solutions.com/gentoo/ ftp://pandemonium.tiscali.de/pub/gentoo/ ftp://de-mirror.org/distro/gentoo/ " LANG="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_ALL="pl_PL.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="pl en" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_COMPRESS="bzip2" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage/local/layman/zugaina /usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow X aac acl acpi alsa apache2 avahi avi bash-completion berkdb bindist bluetooth bzip2 bzlib cairo cdr cjk cli cracklib crypt cups dbus dri dvd dvdr dvdread emboss encode esd evo exif fam flac foomaticdb fortran ftp gd gdbm gif gimpprint glitz gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal htmlhandbook iconv ieee1394 imagemagick immqt-bc ipod ipv6 isdnlog jabber jpeg jpeg2k kde kerberos ldap libnotify mad matroska mbox midi mikmod mime mmx mng mp3 mpeg mudflap musepack musicbrainz ncurses nls nowin nptl nptlonly ogg oggvorbis opengl openmp pam pcre pdf perl png posix ppds pppd python qt3 qt3support qt4 quicktime readline reflection samba sdl session spell spl sse ssl startup-notification subtitles svg sysfs tcpd tiff timidity truetype unicode usb videos vorbis win32codecs wmf x86 xcomposite xine xml xorg xprint xscreensaver xv xvid zeroconf zlib" ALSA_CARDS="via82xx mpu401" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic auth_digest authn_anon authn_dbd authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock dbd deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers ident imagemap include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation proxy proxy_ajp proxy_balancer proxy_connect proxy_http rewrite setenvif so speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="pl en" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nv nvidia vesa" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
It's probably bindist turning it on.
(In reply to comment #1) > It's probably bindist turning it on. Looks like you're right. But why it doesn't work like that with mplayer-1.0_rc2_p26753-(r1)? Ebuild section responsible for this behavior seems similar in all versions.

So it wasn't really a bug. It was intentional that bindist flag enables runtime CPU detection (quite reasonable behavior after all). Thanks for your help. BTW Is it possible to automatically enable cpudetection flag with bindist, so emerge -av will show it? Some message accompanying bindist flag would be nice too.

(In reply to comment #1) > It's probably bindist turning it on. > Which, as pointed out to me, was really stupid. So, now bindist does not enable cpudetection. :)
