in case of installing newpg without pinentry the gpg-agent of newpg is unable to open a popup in order to ask for your passphrase
Result: kmail is unable to decode encrypted mails because it is unable to ask for the password

currently i've installed the following app-crypt-packages:
cryptplug-0.3.15 gnupg-1.2.2 gpa-0.6.1 gpgme-0.3.14 gpgme-0.4.0 gpg-ringmgr-1.12 kgpg-1.0.0 newpg-0.9.4-r1 pinentry-0.6.8

I just added pinentry to the runtime dependencies
