the cgoban2 client in the portage tree is still version 2.6.12. This version is not compatible to the KGS server anymore, so it is not possible to play on KGS using the cgoban2 client.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. run cgoban2
2. login or click on the Guest button

Actual Results:
error message

Expected Results:
log into kgs

The newest version of cgoban2 is v3.3.22 and can be downloaded under http://goserver.gokgs.com/javaBin-3.3.22/cgoban.jar.

hacky ebuild for new version

Just a fast fix, perhaps not good style.

I update the ebuild to fetch the jar form gokgs.com. Because the jar has to be installed without being unpacked, I put in an empty src_unpack method and changed the doins line to directly install the downloaded jar.

cgoban2 is in the tree because it's still nice for pbem and local games. There's no reason to remove it just because it doesn't work with kgs anymore.
