Description Ben Kohler gentoo-dev 2008-11-13 22:22:14 UTC
the read-edid-2.0.0 build needs libx86 (which is only available on x86 & amd64) and fails without it. read-edid-2.0.0 needs to lose all keywords except ~x86 ~amd64.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. use any arch besides x86 / amd64
2. emerge =x11-misc/read-edid-2.0.0

Actual Results:
econf fails with

checking for libx86.h... no
configure: error: libx86.h not found
Comment 1 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-11-14 03:30:59 UTC
That isn't just the 2.0.0 version:

jeroen@astrid /keeps/gentoo/cvs/gentoo-x86/x11-misc/read-edid $ grep libx86 read-edid-*
read-edid-1.4.2.ebuild:DEPEND="amd64? ( >=dev-libs/libx86-1.1 )
read-edid-1.4.2.ebuild: x86? ( >=dev-libs/libx86-1.1 )"
read-edid-2.0.0.ebuild:DEPEND="amd64? ( >=dev-libs/libx86-1.1 )
read-edid-2.0.0.ebuild: x86? ( >=dev-libs/libx86-1.1 )"

Please post your `emerge --info', the build log and config.log.
Comment 2 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-11-14 03:39:02 UTC
Side note: nothing in the x11-misc/read-edid-1.4.2 sources indicates that libx86 would actually be used. :)

Comment 6 Tharrrk 2008-11-29 17:07:32 UTC
The same on ppc. Seems like the bug is in configure script, which makes no difference what arch it runs on.

huh? emerge -av libx86 and try again thanks, and keyword it.

1) x11-misc/read-edid-2.0.0 should depend on dev-libs/libx86.
2) arches with x11-misc/read-edid-2.0.0 keyworded need dev-libs/libx86 keyworded.
3) x11-misc/read-edid-1.4.2 should not depend on dev-libs/libx86 because it uses its own code (lrmi.*) to do what libx86 does for 2.0.0.

libx86 could not be installed on ppc even when keyworded, but I don't think it is a bug to report to libx86 developers, it's too different arch... so any other way to let read-edid-2* work without libx86? Or maybe it's not needed anymore?
Comment 11 Ben de Groot (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-12-15 04:07:21 UTC
Dropped libx86 dep from 1.4.2, and made it a hard dep of 2.0.0, which means we now have KEYWORDS="-* ~amd64 ~x86"

I don't know if there is any hope for other arches, but that should be taken up with upstream, who is a Gentoo user.
Comment 12 Matthew Kern 2008-12-21 14:58:47 UTC
heya... I started building against libx86 so that amd64 could play, not just x86.

Pretty soon, for the next version, I'll take parse-edid and get-edid apart into seperate packages, and make different get-edid code for different archs (with #ifdefs)

Right now, keep it to x86/amd64 only, but I have not forgotten my alternative-architecture friends.
