Description Rabbe Fogelholm 2008-11-13 07:51:11 UTC
Bootstrapping from scratch fails with the message

no ebuilds to satisfy "<sys-devel/m4-1.4.11"

This happens at "Code Listing 1.11: emerge coreutils".

I had a look at old console logs, it seems that the problem appeared 2008-11-12.

stop using the old and unmaintained linux bootstrap guide :)
Comment 3 Rabbe Fogelholm 2008-11-30 11:27:40 UTC
I am pleased to confirm successful bootstrapping on SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP 1, using the September 17, 2008 version of http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gentoo-alt/prefix/bootstrap-solaris.xml?style=printable, completely without tweaks!

Just a thought, perhaps it would be a good idea to put a "no-longer-maintained" warning on the Linux page. Even if it is not linked from the official Gentoo web people may have bookmarks pointing to it.

or nuke the file entirely....

makes sense to me!

Good to know it all works now for the moment!
