von /usr/portage unter http://cvs.gentoo.org/snapshots  heruntergeladen werden.
Dieses wird mit tar xvjf portage-foo.tbz2 in das /usr Verzeichnis entpackt."

...is talking about portage snapshots or something like that. Anyway,
cvs.gentoo.org doesn't seem to lead to snapshots anymore, and the english faq
suggests using
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo/snapshots/ to manually
download snapshots.
