Description svenvermant 2008-11-09 10:36:29 UTC
After updating from powerdevil-1.2.0 to powerdevil-1.4.0, kded4 crashes when starting kde. If one tries to start it manually afterwards, it crashes again, leaving the following message:

kded(31962): Could not load a polling system!
KCrash: Application 'kded4' crashing...
sock_file=/home/bjoern/.kde4.1/socket-notebook/kdeinit4__0
kded(31961): Communication problem with "kded" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "

kded(32078): Could not load a polling system!
kded(32076): Communication problem with "kded" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "

After unmerging powerdevil completely, the problem does not appear any longer

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install powerdevil-1.4.0
2. Start kde4
Actual Results:
kded4 crashes

Expected Results:
kded4 should not crash
Comment 1 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-11-09 11:54:08 UTC
I would need emerge --info please
and also i guess you dont use anything from kde-crazy overlay...?
Comment 2 svenvermant 2008-11-09 12:25:47 UTC
You're right, kde-crazy is not used on my system.

emerge --info

Ok it looks like you are using kdeprefix so also build.log for that package would be fine, because it works here as charm, with -kdeprefix.
Comment 4 svenvermant 2008-11-09 13:01:30 UTC
How do I get a build.log? It is present during the process of emerging in var/tmp/kde-misc/powerdevil-1.4.0/temp/ but as soon as emerging finished successfully, these temporary files are deleted.
But I just noticed that kde-4.1.3 hit the tree, so maybe I should first update from 4.1.2 to 4.1.3 and see if this solves the problems...

PORT_LOGDIR="/var/log/portage" in /etc/make.conf and mkdir that directory.

I just commited updates for libkworkspace and powerdevil.
So please test that it works for you too and close if true, or write us what changed/etc...
Comment 8 svenvermant 2008-11-09 15:39:44 UTC
After updating libkworkspace and reemerging powerdevil the problem still persists.
Comment 9 svenvermant 2008-11-11 18:39:34 UTC
After updating to kde-4.1.3 I still have the problem.
Comment 10 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-11-18 15:23:05 UTC
New powerdevil in the tree, could you confirm that it is still issue? Close if working.
Comment 11 svenvermant 2008-11-19 09:24:09 UTC
Seems to work now :)
