Description Phattanon Duangdara 2008-11-08 03:12:53 UTC
New ebuild for Ralink RT2860 based chipset
RT2860PCI/mPCI/PCIe/CB(RT2760/RT2790/RT2860/RT2890)

RT2860 are not supported by rt2x00 drivers in mainline kernel tree at this time

So I figured it that this may be needed by people who have such hardware

Most new EeePC netbooks and desktop use this wireless card

hum, I have a medion at work that works with this so I'll give it some testing.

Update ebuild with wpa_supplicant enabled

New ebuild
- enable wpa_supplicant by default
- add networkmanager USE flags for Linux wext (native wpa_supplicant, NetworkManager) support
Comment 4 Wormo (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-11-09 05:51:53 UTC
Phattanon, thanks for submitting this ebuild to support more wireless cards! Assigning to the mobile team, who will probably be interested in adopting it.

If the mobile team does not adopt it (for instance, due to no-one having the appropriate hardware), please add this ebuild to the sunrise overlay so more users will take advantage of it (people find an ebuild more easily in sunrise than if it is just attached to a bug report).

Comment 5 Phattanon Duangdara 2008-11-09 09:50:19 UTC
Ok. I will put this in sunrise.
This may not needed to put in portage because this soon be replaced by in-kernel drivers (rt2x00)

net-wireless/rt2860/rt2860-1.7.1.1.ebuild

Another ebuild for the same driver. This one is somehow never released to the public, but was sent to an Ubuntu user by Ralink Support (see http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=409362). It is targeted towards eeepc hardware. I tested both drivers on my Eeebox 202, but only the 1.7.1.1 version works for me (not tested with networkmanager use-flag though).

New version

This one is a bit more ugly, as the tarball is now .tgz, and unpacked folder is named differently from the tarball.
Comment 8 Michael Mohr 2009-06-12 19:30:34 UTC
I believe this is now included in the kernel's staging area, at least as of 2.6.29. You should really upgrade to 2.6.30 if you want to use this.
Comment 9 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-09-16 20:55:07 UTC
There is now stable 2.6.30 in tree so I guess these ebuilds are not useful anymore. Closing wontfix since obviously nothing was done in tree and nothing will be done.
