Description Chris Paulson-Ellis 2003-07-16 01:39:20 UTC
I'm upgrading a machine from gentoo 1.0 to 1.4. During the emerge -e world, the
build of jadetex-3.12 fails as shown below. The error message is most unhelpful
(thanks Donald:-) & I can't find any log files from the invocation of tex to
give me something to go on.

The previous package to be recompiled was tetex-1.0.7-r12 (the autoclean
removed tetex-1.0.7-r10), so I tex _should_ be working.

Does anyone have any idea how I can diagnose the problem? Perhaps there are
some old tetex files that I need to delete, or something.

Chris.

>>> emerge (1 of 147) app-text/jadetex-3.12 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) jadetex-3.12.tar.gz
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking jadetex-3.12.tar.gz to /var/tmp/portage/jadetex-3.12/work
>>> Source unpacked.
tex jadetex.ins
This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.3.1)
(Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)
make: *** [basic] Error 1

there was an anomly in the packages.mask file which caused this. should have been fixed a little while back. try rsyncing and try again.
Comment 2 Chris Paulson-Ellis 2003-07-19 13:46:18 UTC
I tried, but it didn't fix it.

However, manually merging tetex-2.0.2 (which is currently ~x86 in portage) instead of tetex-1.0.7-r12 fixed my problem.

Chris.

I've recently had the same problem. I emerged the masked tetex 2.0 to emerge jadetex. I rsynced and downgraded back to tetex 1.0 and re-emerged jadetex, and I'm still having this issue. I've remerged the masked tetex, and that's what I'll continue using.
Comment 4 Sascha Wuestemann 2003-12-02 10:23:52 UTC
I ran into the same problem.

updating tetex solved it:

[ebuild     U ] app-text/tetex-2.0.2-r3 [1.0.7-r13] +X

dunno which else dependencies were involved, so here is my emerge info:
