I have a 7 Gigabyte file on a RedHat 7.2 Linux Box. I connect from two Gentoos (one phyiscal PC and one VMware) and one Windows to this box. The Windows (XP) and the VMware Gentoo show the correct file size, but with the standalone Gentoo Box I get this: -rw-rw-rw- 1 65535 users 18446744072492736512 Jul 16 16:42 full_2002_10.log this is defenitly NOT 7 Gig :) both Gentoo boxes run samba 2.2.8a Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: the standalone box: Portage 2.0.48-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.2, glibc-2.3.1-r4) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.20-ck6 i586 AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.inode.at http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/ http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" USE="x86 oss apm avi encode gnome libg++ mad mikmod mpeg pdflib quicktime spell xmms xv gdbm tcltk guile esd motif mozilla 3dnow acl alsa apache2 arts berkdb canna cjk crypt cups curl dga directfb fbcon freewnn gd gif gpm gtk gtk2 imap imlib innodb ipv6 java jpeg kde kerberos libwww maildir mcal mmx mysql ncurses nls odbc oggvorbis opengl pam perl png postgres python qt readline ruby samba sasl sdl slang snmp ssl svga tcpd tetex tiff truetype usb wmf X xml xml2 zlib" COMPILER="gcc3" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=k6 -O2 -pipe" CXXFLAGS="-march=k6 -O2 -pipe" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" MAKEOPTS="-j2" AUTOCLEAN="yes" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" FEATURES="sandbox ccache userpriv usersandbox" the vmware box: Portage 2.0.48-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1) ================================================================= System uname: 2.5.72 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.60GHz GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.inode.at http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/ http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /opt/tomcat/conf /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" USE="oss 3dnow apm avi cups encode mikmod mpeg pdflib quicktime xmms xv gdbm tetex svga tcltk guile sdl esd oggvorbis qt motif opengl mozilla acl afs pic ungif apache2 berkdb canna cjk crypt ethereal gd gif gpm freewnn ipv6 imap imlib innodb java jpeg kerberos libg++ libwww mmx nls ncurses odbc pam png readline perl python ruby sasl ssl samba slang snmp sse spell tiff truetype wmf tcpd zlib x86 mysql postgres maildir mbox xml xml2 X arts kde gtk gtk2 -gnome -ldap" COMPILER="gcc3" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O3 -pipe -DHAVE_ERRNO_AS_DEFINE=1" CXXFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O3 -pipe -DHAVE_ERRNO_AS_DEFINE=1" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" MAKEOPTS="-j2" AUTOCLEAN="yes" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" FEATURES="sandbox ccache userpriv usersandbox -noauto
sorry kernel smbfs module has 2GB file size limit. i cannot fix this for you, do not report these bugs to me, report to the kernel people or the samba team.
calculating filesizes via samba is in accurate anyways :) use NFS or something more secure
NFS is another issue. But I think my main RedHat Box is more or less ... CRAP. because from one box I can see the file in correct size from the other not ...
bugzilla buggy.
