I've temporarily removed the following from DNS: A (IPv4 Host) rsync.au.gentoo.org CNAME (Alias) rsync1.au.gentoo.org -> rsync-gentoo.planetmirror.com Since this was the only rsync.au.gentoo.org I've added a CNAME alias from rsync.au.gentoo.org to rsync.gentoo.org to prevent anyone from having problems with rsync.au.gentoo.org. This will need to be reverted when planetmirror comes back. Have sent an e-mail to gentoo-mirror@planetmirror.com about this. -Corey

I've re-added these packages to the rsync list and tested that they work fine. A little bit of history here: we were originally mirroring this every 30 mins per the requirements, however we were finding that the rsync process was taking longer that 30 minutes to complete, resulting in several overlapping rsync processes. We raised this with gentoo but to my knowledge nothing was done. That said, I've set up a locking mechanism now so that if an old process is still running, the new one wont start. -- Regards, Dan Goodes : Systems Programmer : dang@planetmirror.com Help support PlanetMirror - Australia's largest Internet archive by signing up for PlanetMirror Premium : http://planetmirror.com My response: Thanks for getting to this so quickly! As for the long rsync process, this should be better now as OSU (host of rsync1.us.gentoo.org) has recently upgraded their network. Also, the 30 minute interval is for the portage mirror only. The source mirror needs to be updated every 4 hours. If you are trying to update the source mirror every 30 minutes that may be causing problems as well. Cheers! I will begin monitoring the mirror today and hopefully add it later on today.

Time to change the dns back?
Probably should of been more specific. The DNS entry for rsync.au.gentoo.org does not contain 203.16.234.26 (aka gentoo.planetmirror.com and rsync-gentoo.planetmirror.com) as Corey changed in comment 1.
My apologies. I've added you back in as rsync1.au.gentoo.org, also rsync.au.gentoo.org This should appear as soon as dns propogates. Cheers! -Corey
