This should also fix bug 240912 :

- Up version number to 0.7.7
- Enable _GNU_SOURCE macro for builds.  This makes newer libc's provide us
  with the standard GNU systems interface (fixes compilation issues with
  Fedora 9 and Fedora 10 (rawhide) specifically)
