I emerged cups 1.1.9 and then re-emerged ghostscript. When I tried to print, nothing came out and I saw the following in my /var/log/cups/error_log: E [30/Jun/2003:18:55:34 -0500] PID 21983 stopped with status 1! Which (after some research) says that ghostscript has not been compile after cups has been installed. But it has been. I re-emerge cups 1.1.8 and ghostscript, and then it worked fine. oops -- I mean cups 1.1.18 and 1.1.19 -- not 1.1.8 and 1.1.9. Sorry.
cannot reproduce that, but you may try cups 1.1.19-r1, ghostscript 7.05.6-r3 and foomatic-3.0
