After long (say some hours) suspend to ram/wake cycle NFS filesystems does not respond and cannot be unmounted/remounted until all opened files are closed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. mount NFS filesystem 2. open some files (e.g. play some music) 3. suspend to ram and wake after some hours Actual Results: applications holding opened files on the filesystems does not respond, neither the filesystems respond (df does not return, cd does not return .......). mount -o remount does not return, umount -f does not work. One has to kill the applications holding opened files in order to be able to umount and mount again the filesystems Expected Results: unmount filesystems correctly before or after suspend OR keep them mounted and working after wake Linux t61 2.6.25-gentoo-r7 #9 SMP Sun Oct 26 12:34:35 CET 2008 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Seems to be the same problem as: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11154
There is a modified version of the patch attached to the b.k.o bug in linus' tree at http://tinyurl.com/66oz23 In that bug report a user reports the exact same behaviour, and this patch seems to fix it.
Hmmm, I am not sure how long that tinyurl link will stay around for so here is the full link: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=2a9e1cfa23fb62da37739af81127dab5af095d99
Created attachment 173677 [details, diff] fix replying to tcp resets in sunrpc
Created attachment 173679 [details, diff] fix setting tcp reestablish timeout
Both patches from http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11154 need to be applied. Could you please test the two attached patches (please apply them in the order they were attached) against gentoo-sources-2.6.27-r4? They apply ok, and are confirmed to fix the issue in http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.nfs/22779/focus=22798
Patches also messily apply to gentoo-sources-2.6.26-r3
The first patch has made the mainline: SUNRPC: Respond promptly to server TCP resets http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff_plain;h=2a9e1cfa23fb62da37739af81127dab5af095d99
