Description Tom 2008-10-28 13:01:23 UTC
I performed an emerge world today. One of the packages updated was openssh. Following the update I was unable to get sshd to restart. The errors returned were related to parameters in /etc/ssh/sshd_config that control the openssh-lpk patch (LDAP lookups of SSH public keys).

update ssh # /etc/init.d/sshd restart
 * Stopping sshd  [ ok ]
/etc/ssh/sshd_config: line 115: Bad configuration option: UseLPK
/etc/ssh/sshd_config: line 116: Bad configuration option: LpkLdapConf
/etc/ssh/sshd_config: terminating, 2 bad configuration options

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge openssh w/ ldap USE flag
2. /etc/init.d/sshd restart

Actual Results:
update ssh # /etc/init.d/sshd restart
 * Stopping sshd  [ ok ]
/etc/ssh/sshd_config: line 115: Bad configuration option: UseLPK
/etc/ssh/sshd_config: line 116: Bad configuration option: LpkLdapConf
/etc/ssh/sshd_config: terminating, 2 bad configuration options

Expected Results:
ssh should have started properly and used LDAP to retrieve public keys.

Attaching file containing the following output.
1. /etc/ssh/sshd_config file
2. output from /etc/init.d/sshd restart (also listed above)
3. output of 'emerge -va openssh'

I reverted back to openssh-4.7_p1-r6 and everything is once again working properly.

Please post your `emerge --info' too, and specify in the Summary which version of net-misc/openssh fails.
Comment 3 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-10-28 17:56:43 UTC
Attach emerge -pv openssh

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

(sigh) seems that "stable" ebuild never enter testing.

the failing version was net-misc/openssh-5.1_p1-r1

Comment 6 Don 2008-10-28 21:42:39 UTC
Line 121 of openssh-5.1_p1-r1.ebuild is the cause:

        $(use ldap && $(use_with ldap)) \

It should just be:

        $(use_with ldap) \

This fixed the problem for me.

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=235594 is where the change came from. Looks like Mike's fix caused more problems then it solved.
