wow is this bug still around ? i thought this was fixed back with Bug 10834 what version of xfree and xft do you have ?

since you're using xfree-4.3.0 make sure you `emerge -C xft` ... ive updated the ebuild in cvs to fix this problem (needed -I/usr/include/freetype2 in CFLAGS)
