GPUs for a p2p network in which they can share processor time decentrally and work together as a distributed search engine. It would be great to have GPU in portage! From the website: "GPU is a Gnutella client that allows users to share CPU-resources. GPU allows the creation of computer alliances. The CPU-time sharing system does not recognize privileges between users. Each person agrees to provide network resources as needed and in return is able to get CPU-cycles from other clients on the network system. Plugins extend the capabilities of client nodes and are compiled so as to take advantage of the power of the latest processors. Right now, this client allows rendering of Terragen movies. An experimental search engine is included, too. GPU cluster size typically ranges from 5 to 15 computers. It is possible to organize ourself in teams and view statistics. Help us with your pioneer attitude in tweaking and improving this 15GHz monster :) (which is under GPL and targets only peaceful goals btw)." Reproducible: Always
i spent some time in http://gpu.sourceforge.net the general idea looks good, but i found no instructions on building under linux/fps or indication that this is possible. However, it is in their todo list: quote<<The second column tries to free source code from proprietary extensions, and to compile it on a free platform like Lazarus, so that GPU can run on any operating system.end quote>> arne, did you or some1 else build gpu or some part of it under linux?
I honestly didn't realize it is still Windows-only project - since mutella which they want to use as GNU/Linux base hasn't seen updates since 2004, I draw back the wish :( "Compile Mutella clients compatible with GPU nodes which can run on Linux" When they create a version which can run on GNU/Linux (or other free operating systems supported by Gentoo), this Bug should be worth reopening.
