I often get the effect when I do the following: Open the page http://www.matha.rwth-aachen.de/~zeyer/ilias/jars/Mengen/Mengen.html and another page with a java applet. When I close the Mengen.html page, I get back to the other page with the one java applet. Firefox does not respond for about 20-30 seconds but the applet inside Firefox is fully useable in this time.

This (or similar things) even happens on MacOSX and was surely not fixed. I also reported it (or some similar Java-related problem) upstream but they closed it I think as invalid. Well, or they just didn't responded for about a year and then after long time, they asked if I still see this in the current version. I responded yes, then another year or so without response and then they asked again. But now I am just away from Firefox. Seems nobody really cares about it.
