The alsa plugin for XMMS should NOT depend on alsa-driver because the 2.5.x kernels have ALSA packaged with it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. install 2.5.x kernel with alsa 2. try to emerge alsa-xmms Actual Results: requires alsa-driver (external module) even if kernel packaged one present Expected Results: Check for 2.5.x kernel and remove dep.
kernel 2.5 isn't the only one with alsa included many 2.4 trees have it also
Yep, I agree with this bug report. In fact, in the version 0.9.11 (which I committed a few days ago) I have changed the dependency to read "virtual/alsa" instead of "media-sound/alsa-driver". Now, if we could only get all the kernels that provide alsa drivers also provide virtual/alsa, that would be great. See bug 14907, which is a long-standing issue.
I meant to say "version 0.9.12", that is.
As agenkin says, this is resolved in 0.9.12. Closing.
